Sight Reading. Level 1

The Sight Reading series is designed to provide the student with additional reading material to reinforce concepts learned in Piano Lessons.

Musical reading is our goal. The student may write-in his own indications based on the character and mood of the pieces. Also, the student may give tules to the pieces. In this manner the student will be taught to think creatively about music, and reading will be more than just trying to play the notes in the correct rhythm.

Have the student: give a brief pre-study analysis before playing. Have him clap or tap the rhythm before playing. If he is unsure of the note narres, he may say the note narres aloud while playing. In addition, he should count aloud while playing.

Finger numbers are given sparingly to promote note reading rather than "finger number reading."

Transposition may be assigned at the teacher's discretion.

A variety of reading experiences is provided to relieve monotony. Legato and staccato touch, chords, dynamics and different moods of the reading pieces help to maintain the student's interest.
